RIP, Rosita Fernandez, San Antonio's First Lady of Song

The San Antonio Express-News ran a lovely feature on the life of this talented woman. From the article:

Rosita Fernandez, the Mexican-born singer known as San Antonio's first lady of song and one of her adopted hometown's most beloved icons, has died at age 88.

After suffering a slight heart attack last month, she was transferred to a hospice where she died Tuesday evening.

Self-effacing and modest, Fernandez never sought the limelight even when she performed for Pope John Paul II, U.S. and Mexican presidents, ambassadors and royalty.

She sang for a simple reason.

"God gave me a voice that is pleasant to hear, and I want to share it," the petite singer said.

Flights of angels sing thee to thy rest, dear lady. Our condolences to her family, friends, and many admirers.
